Legal Help Caring For Incapacitated Loved Ones

Though it can be difficult to accept when a parent or spouse is no longer able to handle his or her own affairs, as a loving relative the best thing you can do is make sure that his or her financial matters, medical decisions and day-to-day life are being well taken care of. My Fresno law firm, Gary G Bagdasarian, Attorney at law, is here to help if you are seeking conservatorship over a loved one.

Conservatorships Explained

California’s estate law allows for conservatorships when an adult lacks the ability to make important decisions on their own. For many people, this occurs due to an illness like Alzheimer’s disease, which sadly robs them of their mental capacity. In a conservatorship, another person, known as the conservator, takes over some (or all) aspects of the incapacitated person’s life. For example, the conservator might be granted the right to make decisions about where the incapacitated person will live, or what medications he or she will take.

Once it has been determined that someone needs a conservatorship, family members often disagree who should take on that responsibility. If you are engaged in a conservatorship, as your lawyer I will draw on my decades of experiences to make a persuasive argument in your favor.

I Understand Conservatorships From All Angles

I am also on a panel of attorneys who act to represent allegedly incompetent people in conservatorship cases. I understand the law from all sides, as well as how conservatorship disputes can affect families. I will work hard to help you make sure your loved one is being taken care of, while also avoiding long-term divisions in the family.
